Governor Kashim Shettima said the State Government has concluded arrangements to allocate 500 houses to resettle victims of fire incident at Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area of the State, disclosing that construction work on the project has reached completion stage; adding that the houses would be distributed to affected households within two weeks.
Governor Kashim Shettima has also warned that any medical doctor or medical personnel who is not willing to serve in his/her respective Local Government will be sacked.
The Governor gave the warning when he paid a sympathy visit to Gajiram, the head quarters of nganzai local govt over the recent fire out break that engulf some parts of gajiram town.
Addressing the people, Governor Shettima said he was at the Local Government on a sympathy visit to commiserate with them over the recent fire inferno. He prayed for the repose of those who lost their lives and wish quick recovery to those injured.
The Governor directed for the establishment of fire fighting units, 13 fire fighting vehicles procured by the government would also be distributed to communities, and the Government will also embark on community sensitization exercise to address the problem.
Governor Shettima also said that a digital biometric system will be installed in all Local Governments to ensure that all staff posted will be verified and those found wanting will be sacked.
Governor Shettima also launched the distribution of relief materials by the Borno State Government in collaboration with the Presidential Committee on North East Initiative (PCNI) at the Local Government Secretariat.
The Governor made a symbolic presentation of the items to the victims.
The Chairperson of the State Emergency Management Agency, Hajiya Yabawa Kolo said after the occurrence of the fire inferno, they were able to identify over one thousand five hundred households were displaced and seven persons lost their lives in the incident.
Kolo said that the agency in collaboration with the Presidential Committee on Northeast Initiative (PCNI), distributed food and non-food items (NFIs) to victims to mitigate their sufferings.
She listed the items to include grain, cooking oil, kitchen utensils, nets, blankets and dresses.
The PCNI representative said the agency in collaboration with NEMA and SEMA brought relief material of food and non-food items, urging judicious distribution to ensure that those targeted benefit from the gesture.
The Senator representing Borno North, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, the Member, House of Representatives representing Marte, Monguno, and Nganzai, Barr. M. T. Monguno, and the member representing Nganzai at the Borno State House of Assembly, Alh. Wakil Bukar commiserated with the victims and wished quick recovery to those injured, pledging cash donations.
Hussaini Ganya of Ganya village, Goni Modu Aji of Kuda village, Yagana Modu of Damaram village, and Ya Aisa Kyari of Damaram Lawanti village all appreciated the gesture and assured them that they’ll not sell the items, but use them for their domestic needs.
Governor Shettima took his time to visit all the affected areas before proceeding to inspect ongoing construction works at Gajiram mega school, Gajiram 500 housing estate, and Gajiram general hospital.
The Governor said that Government would soon commission the 500 newly constructed houses, Mega School and the general hospital projects in the area.
In an interview, the Governor also disclosed that in two weeks time, all projects will be completed and inaugurated, and assured the people of addressing the problem of fire outbreak by establishing fire fighting units.
